LONDON, Dec 1 — Florence and the Machine frontwoman Florence Welch is planning the summer release of a book of lyrics, never-before-seen poetry and sketches titled Useless Magic.
The full-colour hardcover book is to feature art from Welch's sketchbooks in addition to collected lyrics and poetry by the singer-songwriter.
Details are limited for now, but publisher Fig Tree reveals that Useless Magic will offer insight into Welch's creative process, featuring “some of the things that have inspired her writing.”
The publisher's description includes what appears to be a quote from the author that sheds light on the book's title: “Songs can be incredibly prophetic, like subconscious warnings or messages to myself, but I often don't know what I'm trying to say till years later. Or a prediction comes true and I couldn't do anything to stop it, so it seems like a kind of useless magic.”
The English musician is the vocalist for indie rock band Florence and the Machine, whose 2009 debut album Lungs was named Best British Album at the Brit Awards. Subsequent albums Ceremonials and How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful have been chart-toppers on both sides of the Atlantic.
