LOS ANGELES, Aug 4 — James Patterson is the world’s highest-paid author, according to Forbes’ annual rich list that was released yesterday.
This is the third year in a row that the American author, best known for his crime tomes centred on fictional psychologist Alex Cross, has topped the list.
Forbes said that the earnings were due to several TV and film adaptations of his books, including Zoo and Maximum Ride.
With an estimated US$95 million (RM385 million) in yearly earnings, Patterson was miles ahead of runner-up Jeff Kinney. The author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series brought in US$19.5 million, pipping JK Rowling, who is in third place, by a small margin.
The top five was rounded out by John Grisham (US$18 million) and Stephen King (US$15 million).
The only name new to this year’s list of authors is Paula Hawkins, who penned last year’s hit The Girl on the Train.
