Bursa ends morning session lower

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today, weighed down by losses in selected heavyweight stocks, led by Axiata and Public bank, dealers said.
At 12.30pm, the key FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 2.08 points to 1,751.92, after moving between 1,752.62 and 1,756.17 throughout the morning session.
It opened two points higher at 1,756.00 from yesterday's close of 1,754.00
On the broader market, losers led gainers 367 to 348 with 372 counters unchanged, 773 untraded and 35 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.77 billion shares worth RM808.69 million.
A dealer said share prices on major Asian stock markets continued to hold firm on Friday on expectations of global growth, but still cautious ahead of the release of US and Chinese economic data, as well as the Chinese Communist Party Congress next week.
It was also amid the softer performance of Wall Street which retreated due to unexciting US financial sector results, he added.
On Bursa Malaysia, heavyweight stocks closed the morning session mixed, with losses in finance trade and services stocks being the main contributors weighing down the FBM KLCI.
Regionally, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 1.21 per cent to 21,207.92, Hong Kong's Hang Seng edged up 0.03 per cent to 28,468.76, South Korea's Kospi added 0.06 per cent to 2,476.29, the Singapore Straits Times index gained 0.45 per cent to 3,318.03, while the Shanghai Stock Exchange bagged 0.15 per cent to 3,391.16.
Of the heavyweights, TNB added two sen to RM9.51, Petronas Chemicals gained one sen to RM7.3, Maybank and Sime Darby eased two sen each to RM9.51 and RM9.0 respectively, while Public Bank shed four sen to RM20.52.
Among active counters, NetX Holding edged up half-a-sen to 6.5 sen, Prinsiptek Corporation improved 2.5 sen to 18 sen, Asia Bioenergy added two sen to 22.5 sen, while Sumatec and Borneo Oil were flat at 5.5 sen and 9.5 sen respectively.
The FBM Emas Index shed 13.36 points to 12,553.15, the FBMT 100 Index slid 13.35 points to 12,198.36 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index lost 10.05 points to 12,840.20 and the FBM 70 slipped 12.57 points to 15,197.38.
The FBM Ace rose 26.09 points to 6,961.46.
Sectorwise, the Plantation Index bagged 2.15 points to 7,946.52, the Industrial Index eased 0.38 of a point to 3,212.26, and the Finance Index was 6.53 points lower at 16,502.59. — Bernama
