Sedic in talks with govt agencies to boost Indian community’s participation in public sector

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 ― The Socioeconomic Development of Indian Community (Sedic) Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department is in discussion with eight government agencies to increase participation of the Indian community in the public sector to seven per cent.

“The discussions began more than a month ago and the agencies have been very cooperative. Presently only four per cent of Indians are in the public sector,” he told a media conference in conjunction with Deepavali.
On the Action Plan for the Indian Community launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last April, he said there had already been several positive outcomes.
For instance, Sedic had already resolved 200 of 2,500 pending cases involving citizenship and the individuals concerned would be getting their identification documents soon.
Other positive outcomes were settlement last August of the residence issue at Taman Permata, Dengkil which had dragged on for 18 years, and provision of 700 additional places in public universities for Indian students. ― Bernama
