KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — While online shopping has taken off in Malaysia, there continues to be concerns over online security, and a strong demand for reputable and trusted online payment, a Paypal survey showed.
The survey among more than 1,000 Malaysian adults also showed that 73 per cent of the respondents shopped online at least once a month.
Doing so with mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets is becoming the preferred way. Close to half the respondents (46 per cent) shopped using these devices at least once a month.
More than 56 per cent spent over RM200 shopping online over the last three months.
The top concerns relating to online shopping security were financial details being stolen by cybercriminals and falling to fraud (58 per cent),having to share credit card details with a website not visited before (23 per cent), not getting what was ordered (nine per cent) and six per cent over receiving damaged goods.
But only 11 per cent had actually encountered any form of fraudulent activity when shopping online.
The survey found that although cross-border shopping was becoming increasingly popular, respondents had more concerns about security when it came to shopping from overseas websites. — Bernama
