KUCHING, Jan 12 — Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) president Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg and his two deputies, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will not be challenged at the party’s triennial convention next month.
The party’s supreme council made the decision at its meeting here this afternoon.
“We have made a compromise that there will not be any contest for the top three posts at the convention on February 9 to 11,” Abang Johari told reporters after the meeting at the party headquarters at Jalan Bako.
He, however, said the two posts of senior vice presidents and three vice presidents and the ordinary supreme council members are up for grabs.
Abang Johari also announced that PBB Youth leader Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Women head Tan Sri Empiang Antak have decided not to defend their respective posts.
“The supreme council has also decided that the persons to take over from them will not be challenged,” Abang Johari, who is also the chief minister, said, but declined to name the persons to be next Youth and Women chiefs.
He said their names will be endorsed at the triennial convention.
However, it is widely believed that the Youth deputy leader and Layar state assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu will take over from Fadillah, who is also the works minister, while state Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah will take over from Empiang.
Fatimah is presently the Women deputy leader.
Abang Johari thanked Fadillah and Empiang for their contributions and service to the two movements.
While Empiang has decided to retire from active politics, Fadilah has hinted that he will likely go for one of the two senior vice presidency posts.
Abang Johari said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will open the PBB Triennial Convention on February 10.
