Melaka cops prepare personnel for upcoming election

MELAKA, Nov 15 ― The Melaka Police Contingent are preparing its personnel in terms of physical, mental and knowledge aspects through the general election charity exercise to face the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).
Melaka police chief Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan said the charity exercise, which had begun two days ago, would be carried out in five stages, namely during the dissolution of Parliament, nomination of candidates, campaigning, voting and post-election.
“Based on these five stages, Melaka police personnel will be exposed to the real situation such as internal or external threats or disturbances that can disrupt the state's security and stability.
“A total of 2,500 personnel will be involved in the charity exercise and will be assisted by the 500 personnel of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) and the General Operations Force (PGA),” he told reporters after attending the contingent’s assembly here today.
Earlier, Abd Jalil witnessed the handing over of duties of state Special Branch chief by Datuk Dr Wan Ariffin Wan Ahmad to his successor ACP Borhan Daud.
Borhan was Pahang Police Contingent headquarters Special Branch II deputy chief and Wan Ariffin has been transferred to Bukit Aman as Special Branch E4 assistant director.
In another development, Abd Jalil said 20 individuals, aged between 20 and 56, were detained under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (POCA) and 39 investigation papers were opened from Jan 1 until today. ― Bernama
