IPOH, Nov 15 — A 42-year-old jobless man was arrested today for attempted assault on an officer on duty and breaking a glass door at the Gopeng police station in Kampar, Perak.
Kampar police district chief Supt Ng Kong Soon said the suspect tested positive for drugs.
“In the incident which happened at around 10.50pm, the suspect, who is unemployed, ran into the police station and kicked the glass door until it broke.
“He then entered the police station by chanting 'Allahuakbar' and also grabbed a plastic chair to attack a policeman who was on duty,” he said in a statement.
Ng said only two policemen were on duty at the time of the incident.
One of the officers tried to stop the man who eluded him by running to the back of the station. The other policeman then called for back-up from his other colleagues and they finally succeeded in apprehending the man.
Ng said the policeman who tried to stop the suspect injured his right hand.
The arrested man suffered injuries to his head, hand, leg and body while struggling against the officers who were apprehending him.
The man has been sent to hospital for treatment. The damage to the police station is estimated at RM500.
The man is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief and damage; and Section 90 of the Police Act 1967 for disorderly conduct in a police station.
