KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — It seemed like another quiet Sunday outing for undergraduate Sharifah Syahira Syed Muhd Nur. Little did she realise that a minor accident would end her aunt’s life.
The 22-year-old was in the front passenger seat of the Honda City driven by Norazlin Haron, 44, when it was involved in the accident in Kota Damansara.
The steering wheel airbag was activated and Norazlin was killed after she was pierced in the chest by a projectile.
“One moment there was a dent and then an explosion. I still cannot believe how her death came about,” she told Malay Mail.
“It all happened in the blink of an eye,” said Sharifah, adding that they were going to buy a mobile phone for her aunt.
“We were close and we used to go out almost every weekend.”
The accident happened at the Jalan Teknologi 3/6A junction.
“It was a graze and suddenly, after hearing a loud noise, I realised my aunt was slumped on the steering wheel and her children were screaming from the backseat.
“I immediately got the children out of the car. My aunt was groaning in pain.”
A passing medical emergency team came to our assistance “but for some reason they could not take my aunt to the hospital.”
Another ambulance was summoned but Norazlin was pronounced dead when they arrived.
Sharifah said her aunt knew about the Honda recall and was awaiting a letter from the car manufacturer.
She also narrated an incident which took place inside the car minutes before the accident.
“We saw a hearse passing by and Norazlin’s second child asked it was? My aunt quickly answered that it was a kereta jenazah (hearse) and gave a wide smile.
“It was like a sign to me. I am still disturbed about the incident. I hope I can recover from this trauma.”
